hot soap
And water
Fill the tub and get in
Scrub away your failings
...

I am cold as stone
And as unyielding

I do not ask for anything

She dared to apologise on my behalf,
she dared to ignore the slight
offending my brown skin.
She smiled. And shrugged her shoulders.

hot soap
And water
Fill the tub and get in
Scrub away your failings
And your recent sin

He came, he left, left me
Quite bewildered.
Scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing away
Scrubbing at my skin.
All red and sore
And breaking,
Just like i am within
