The Significance Of Others

Rocks of the open coast, with many facets
Some sides washed or battered at high tide
Others kissed and lapped at by foam
Yet other facets barren, untouched,
Yearning to be moist.

Rocks of the chasm, pelted on all sides
No part left dry - but at the cost
Of turbulence, of raging current,
Unstopped, even when peace is wanted;
No chance for life to grow upon its face -
Life cannot commit to stay, without some chance
To bond, feel safe, and grow.

For multivaried facets to be nourished, not be parched,
To be so without turbulence or pain,
To flourish on all sides,
With life not pulled away nor torn, nor filled with doubt,
One sometimes needs two currents,
Dual flows whose paths
Are planned with elegance, respect, and care.
