Ron Secoy Poems

A friend died recently
Our hearts filled with remorse
Some may not understand
They’ll say, “He was just a horse”
...

I don’t know in history who spoke the first poem
Maybe God, when He said, “Let there be light”
Reckon that was it and the part about
Separating the day from the night
...

Maybe heaven or the Chisholm Trail?
My eyes beheld a marvelous scene
Above the skies were a turquoise blue
The bermuda knee high and deep green
...

Gentle breeze scurrying across the porch
Sun softly baking his old cowboy bones
Nearly napping in the cane rocking chair
The day of rest for Grandpa Buck Jones
...

Where we going grandpa?
The boy asked the old man
To a place soldiers go
When they have made their last stand
...

Ron Secoy Biography

Ron Secoy, cowboy poet and cowboy at heart, lives at Central High, Oklahoma not far from Duncan and the famed Chisholm Trail. Not a cowboy by upbringing or by trade, his interest in the cowboy and cowboy poetry is in his words, “God given and a part of the big round up.” He has written something, from short stories to newspaper articles and personal journaling, most of his life. His first book, Cowboy Psalms, has come from his gut, his love for his Lord and the cowboy way of life. He lives on six acres with his wife Anneliese and daughter, Rani-Anne and a “passel of God’s creatures – 2 wolf dogs, a cow dog, a cat and two fine examples of horse flesh.”)

Just A Horse

A friend died recently
Our hearts filled with remorse
Some may not understand
They’ll say, “He was just a horse”

Broke his heart to sell Apache
But when Dad died he was forced
Three hundred and fifty dollars
“If you want just a horse”

For my daughter, a new chapter
In her growing up course
Her heart and eyes burned bright
Yet, “he was just a horse”

In the arena, through the poles
Riding natures own source
Mounted on her lithe steed
“Yes, he was just a horse”

A queen in the parade
With a crown and sash, of course
Riding regally through the cheering crowd
Noble and proud, “but just a horse”

In the corral or just around the pasture
Listening to her gentle discourse
Love applied with a curry brush
For an animal “who was just a horse”

God created all the animals
Before he created man in due course
Gave humanity all his best
God’s own plan, but “never just a horse”
