We Need You Most

When you were just a little one,
Upon your father's knee.
He told you stories about world wars,
And that's how come we are free.
On your face you wore a smile,
In your heart you cried.
You told him you understood,
Inside you knew you lied.
You walked away with childish hope,
There'll never be a war.
You'll never hate another country,
You'll help the weak, the lost, the poor.
Then you grew up and saw the world,
You lost your gentle dream.
There was nothing left for you to do,
You heard your country scream.
You joined the service and off you went,
You left our friendly coast.
Things didn't turn out the way you wanted,
But you're there where we need you most.
