Absence Of Colour
Silhouettes upon a canvas white,
Black and white, day and night,
Urban darkness, fluorescent bright,
Lacking nuance, colours take flight.
Sepia photographs, in brown and rust,
Faces forgotten, remember I must.
Memories struggle to the surface rise,
Enmeshed in a colourless prison, the prize.
Grey, oh, the grey of a pigeons breast,
Grey, oh the grey that on hilltops rest.
Grey, oh the grey of rain and thunder,
Grey the shade that never tears asunder.
I belong to silhouettes of yore,
To sepia, rust, myths and lore,
To grey that shines in the 'mother of pearl',
In the absence of colour, I dance, I twirl...
