Sammy Omotese Poems

In anger I questioned my Father for making me so tall
He pointed me in the direction of a vertically challenged brethren wishing for what I have got
I told Him I wanted all the pretty damsels to myself
He laughed and showed me what Delilah did to Samson

I will sail like the eagle in flight
Tenacious as the ancient rafters
In my time
I will swim across the Atlantic for love
...

I will multiply
When it is time
Like flowers in spring
And grasses by a river
...

When the faceless moon lingers
When all that is left lack meaning
At such times when the tongue is at war with the teeth
When bitterness shoots up like an umbrella

If we exfoliate not our skin, but the first layer of our mind set
If we abort not pregnancies, but the throngs of insensitivity towards one another
If we learn not just algebra in school, but that we truly are one and the same
If we proceed from subjectivity to creativity
...

I m a conqueror
Yes I am

Gratitude

In anger I questioned my Father for making me so tall
He pointed me in the direction of a vertically challenged brethren wishing for what I have got
I told Him I wanted all the pretty damsels to myself
He laughed and showed me what Delilah did to Samson
I cursed for having just bread and milk for supper
Until I saw a beggar scavenging for left over burger in a bin
I envied those driving in exotic cars and wonder why not me
Until I stumbled upon a brother without limbs
I distanced my love from my folks
Then I met a lone survivor from a ravaged city without a soul to call his cousin
In frustration I tore away my linen clothes
My Father smiled and showed me a man with loin cloth just enough to cover his manhood
Though I am quick to nag
I rejoice for the unlimited mercies my Father bequeaths to me on a daily basis.
