Columbine

It was just another April Tuesday
Nearing the end of the school year.
Kids laughing in the most innocent way,
The dreaded end of lunch drawing near.

The roar of the room was stifled
When two trench-coated shooters hustled in.
They yelled and fired their rifles
Consumed by some dark demon within.

On a glorious spring day,
Basking in rays of the Colorado sun,
The fate of a high school was changed
By two boys with four guns.

The students hid under the tables,
Sobbing and praying to live,
But the gunmen had no compassion,
And the bullets, no sympathy to give.

Crimson flooded the floors silently
As the victims felt a final labored breath slip.
Their young lives ended so violently
With an unspoken goodbye on their lips.

On a glorious spring day,
Basking in rays of the Colorado sun,
The fate of a high school was changed
By two boys with four guns.

Imagine being under that table
Wondering if this is your last day.
The gunshots ring in your ears
As your fallen friends slip away.

They killed twelve students and one teacher,
Thirteen lives stolen by an awful, unspeakable crime.
And the pain, felt so deeply and sharply,
Would only heal with tears, prayers, and time.

On a glorious spring day,
Basking in rays of the Colorado sun,
The fate of a high school was changed
By two boys with four guns.
