Scott Murray Poems

The sun rises and casts the dreams away
But I can still hear my plea of why can't you stay
There are pieces of you strewn around the floor
The last remnants of a time you wanted more.
...

What do you see when you look at me?
Are you fooled by my smiles?
Or do you see horns growing out my head?
Do you cower in fear when I walk through the door?
...

She stares at his face as his eyes glisten over,
Reaches out her hand and pulls out a revolver,
She steadies her hand, finger on the trigger,
The metal makes him shake; her hand starts to quiver,
...

She makes me smile,
She makes me cry,
On the odd occasion she makes me sigh,
She is like a pale moon light in a darkened night,
...

You wipe a tear from my eye; you never could stand to see me cry
You say it's time to put it to bed, just kick it in the head
And that what we had has to die
My limbs are getting tired, but you have a magnetic pull which drags me forward
...

I woke up today alone in my bed
The sky outside was covered in grey
There was a single strand of hair on your side of the pillow
I wrapped it round my finger
...

I remember the look on your face as you smiled at me
So open, so hopeful, so full of joyful glee,
These moments keep playing as I wind back the clock,
Just begging the little hands to please just stop,

Monday Heartsick Blues

The sun rises and casts the dreams away
But I can still hear my plea of why can't you stay
There are pieces of you strewn around the floor
The last remnants of a time you wanted more.

The walk in today was lonely and cold
The office is empty and bare, the work is a bore.
There are children outside playing rope
There laughter cuts through me it offers no hope.

The world seems so grey and flat and pale
And I envision a time when you make it seem real
And the hours tick by until I can come back to you
And I am reassured that you think about that too

As I lay back with you cradled there
It holds back a weeks' worth of despair
I whisper in your ear things that are true
But words like your gorgeous or beautiful have no comparison to you
As you turn back to me with a smile on your face
You say 'you are silly' to put me back into my place.

But the sun continues to move, to be replaced by the moon
And the churning in my gut tells me you are leaving soon
You rise from the cocoon and collect the pieces of you strewn on the floor
You utter the words I must leave you once more.
