Sedrick A. Goldbeck Poems

And Death in time comes riding up from hell
To tempt or claim those waiting there for him.
All stand in trembling at the Devil's whim --
Perchance to hear the tolling of the bell.

Comes soon the dawn to cool the heat
of nights too long embrace
and with the dawn, a soft wet dew
on leaves, a glistening lace.

In Death There Is Life

And Death in time comes riding up from hell
To tempt or claim those waiting there for him.
All stand in trembling at the Devil's whim --
Perchance to hear the tolling of the bell.
But fate no certainty as time will tell,
May send mixed blessings with the Cherubim --
Bring Death or joyful songs of Seraphim.
In Death there's Life and Life in Death will dwell --
Transitions all ... a change to something new;
Our lives fulfill according to some plan.
Weep not at Death --Rejoice with great elan
To end one life, another life renew;

In gardens sow --where every seed will be
A fresh beginning of new things for thee.
