Shannon Atherton Poems

Racism is just so wrong
It makes people feel they don't belong.
It doesn't matter, the colour of your skin;
What's important is what lies within.
...

When you were put upon this earth
My mum felt she was blessed
But when she lost you she found her heart
Was ripped out from her chest
...

If I could be somebody else
Other than just me
I'd be the one that's popular
With friends from A - Z
...

Growing up's like a shadow;
It follows you everywhere.
It won't go away,
It'll just have to stay,
...

Christmas is the time of year
for celebration and good cheer.
A time to laugh and shout and sing,
and be thankful for everything.
...

Feeling alone, friends stay away
You spent time on your own today
The sky is blue and shows how you feel
Not even sure if this is real
...

Feeling pressured, I rack my brains
searching for a solution
If I say yes, I'll be in with the crew
but at school I'll be facing exclusion
...

As you stare into her eyes
You know that she's the one
And right then you realise
you'd die if she was gone
...

My life is a living nightmare.
Of it I have no control.
All those I know are against me,
they share the same purpose and goal.
...

Sitting on the pavement, breeze waking the leaves;
totally oblivious - lost in the poems she weaves.
The clouds and skies, they start to spit, just soft at first but then,
The heavens truly open - they'll stop, but who knows when?
...

What comes out of hate is a negative thing
What comes from hope makes me want to sing
It's not always easy to love one another
But try to be kind to your sister or brother
...

12.

It seemed like a laugh, it was okay;
That was the first time I used it.
Now I turn against others -
I've started to abuse it.
...

13.

Red is the colour of anger;
The colour of loss and defeat.
When the sun shines down on a summer's day,
Your cheeks turn red in the heat.
...

Love is a feeling, a knot in your throat.
Love is a story, the best that they wrote.
Love is so heartfelt, it fills you with tears.
It only grows stronger while counting the years.
...

I'm at the end of a journey,
one that I've enjoyed.
My life's whizzing by so quickly -
soon I'll be employed!
...

I love my mum to bits;
I love my dad aswell,
But there's a little secret that
to no-one I can tell.
...

When I look into the mirror,
what do I see?
A beautiful princess?
No. A glamourous model?
...

A father is someone who cares
for their child. He is
caring, loving, and a good person.
A dad is always there, standing by his children -
...

My favourite teacher, Mr. C -
He was as funny as one can be.
Maths lessons were really fun;
in every challenge, I always won.
...

The magical flower, tall and still,
Stands 4ft high upon a hill.
Shining like the sun's bright face,
It spreads its leaves in their rightful place.

Shannon Atherton Biography

I am a 16-year-old who has been writing poetry for as long as I can remember. I write on a range of topics and I enjoy reading and analysing poetry. I have considered publishing a collection of poems but I have no idea how to go about it. I joined Poem Hunter because I think it is time to share my work with the world, and to see if it is appreciated as much as I would like it to be. I have written poems in the past for funerals of my friend's loved ones, but I am open to a range of themes. I am struggling to make my break in the world of poetry; although I am still at school, I have a lot of ambition and would like to publish poetry collections in the future.)

The Best Poem Of Shannon Atherton

Racism

Racism is just so wrong
It makes people feel they don't belong.
It doesn't matter, the colour of your skin;
What's important is what lies within.

STOP all the calling
STOP all the names
STOP all the violence
We're all the same

Why be so nasty,
Why not get along?
If you agree then join in with this song.

Because as I was saying,
It really isn't nice
to feel like you're an outcast.
So before you speak, think twice.

So let's try our best to be a better population,
Spreading joy throughout the world, becoming one whole nation.
We're all different in some way, however strange this might be,
So let's unite as one world; there's no 'I' in 'we'.
