We're sitting here beneath the moon,

Call me romantic
but I like to be wooed with poetry;
your lips shaping the words of
Byron, Tennyson and Patmore.

A Late-Summer Night's Kiss

We're sitting here beneath the moon,
with hearts ablaze, each thought in tune-
My gaze is lost in baby-blues,
with hopes, at last, of love anew.

I'm captured here within a trance,
in promises of high romance,
tilting my head to angle left,
your touch assured, rehearsed, adept.

I close my eyes, then draw you near
with whispered words you long to hear.
Fast fluttering, be still my heart!
Our lips, this kiss, not worlds apart.

Such tenderness of fingertips
you bridge the gap to kissing bliss-
Our breaths, in swirl, they softly wait
the second that our kiss abates-

But no, time stops; we linger here
enrapt in joy, dismissing fear.
Kiss on, now kissed, but kisses end,
we part and leave as barely friends.

Though life goes on as life will do,
perfectly kissed and so were you-
recall the kiss that passed too soon,
enamoured 'neath the stars and moon.
