Shrutika Nagpal Poems

Hidden in the branches,
From the heat of day,
Relaxed I lay.
...

When I was a young, innocent child
When I was sensitive and naïve
Whole heartedly I used to believe
Friends can solve any problem- serious or mild.
...

You must be expecting me to rattle on bullshit about freedom fighters
And famous writers,
But for a normal school child
The nature of a treat is palely mild
...

We had a great relationship
And an enviable one at that
We finished each other’s sentences
And each other’s lives
...

The bellwether
Can lead in any weather
If he is woebegone
It is because his soul is gone
...

I never said I hated you
Though the times I do
Are not very few.
...

You gnaw at my consciousness
Force me into drowsiness
You slowly drug me
And make me sleepy

People say learning is a continuous process
There’s never a stage where one knows all
People says there’s never a time you can be perfectly sure
Because however careful you are, you can always fall.

How hard can it be
To love me baby
Probably not that much
‘Cause you did (maybe)

Stuck in the lemon tree,
A kite that once flew free,
Red and green striped,
It cannot be further described.

When did it all go dark?
The lights left no mark
On the tree or it's bark
When did the lights go off?

I love patience so much
Yet im impatient

I try to forget he ever existed

The Mango

Hidden in the branches,
From the heat of day,
Relaxed I lay.

Water flowed upwards,
From the roots,
To the leaves, and us fruits.

Then suddenly something trembled,
The leaves shading me,
Were removed from all around me.

A human hand!
“Ugh! ” in disgust, I exclaimed,
Wondering from where this atrocity came.

The phalanges came closer, and closer,
They twisted the stem above me,
Tugged, and then separated it from me!

There I lay, in the human hand,
And they examined if I was ripe enough,
They squeezed me, and said, “Darn, too tough.”

The next moment, I was in a plastic bag,
That jiggled all the way till the car,
In AC comfort, we drove long and far.

After what seemed like an entire season,
The car came to a halt, and I,
Was taken out, and put on a counter to die.

Perhaps I was being pessimistic,
But the next thing drove all suspicions loose,
Because, bada bing, bada bong, and I was Mango juice!
