Voices

The voices down the street keep me company,
The voices down the hall keep me sane.
When I fear of dying alone,
How can I ever escape?

The voices in my head are my best friends,
The voices I hear are real.
But when I talk about it, I get stares,
How is that supposed to make me feel?

I can question the voices,
More than I question anything else.
But curiosity killed the cat,
And I can’t help but question myself.

Is one the voice of god,
And one the voice of evil?
Is one the voice of mistakes and judgement?
Or are they all equal?

Are they fortune tellers, or are they witches?
How can I decipher?
My life is full of ups and downs,
Along with voices that have spoken
Since I was in my diaper.

I ask myself, is there something wrong?
And I never quite know the answer.
Until the voices interject,
To say that my regrets are always a factor.

The voices don’t hold me back,
And a smile is simply a curtain,
Sometimes a language I can’t quite understand
From a life that’s never certain.

The voices are all my insecurities,
The voices are all my strengths,
The voices have been a crutch,
When I felt I was going to break.

Where are they now,
When I need them most?
The silence is killing me,
And it’s something I cannot quote.
