A Candle In The Dark Poem by Billy Smith

A Candle In The Dark

a candles flame alone in the dark
symbolic dispair with only a spark
of the smallest hope providing some light
the unknown future's still worth the fight

a solitary candle in the dark sputtering
a slobbery fool softly muttering
how many f**kups to figure it out
i gotta admit to feeling some doubt
to so many idiots you've given so much
yet i get of contentment only a touch

staring at the candle drunkenly i pray
the remains of a fifth in hand i sway
if this next time i promise to do it all right
will finaly your blessing on me alight?
or am i doomed to lonlyness eternal
no life partner matrimonial or maternal
kind and benevolent i no longer believe
cruel and capricious with never a reprieve

the candle extinguished in hand in the rain
i drunkenly shout into the storm my pain
the flash then crash with no seperation
'f**k you' and ' finish it' a pool of negation
like the pool i was standing in over my toes
waiting for lightning to end my woes
