Albatross Poem by Robert Siney

Albatross

She possesses my control
And I know she holds the key,
To my happiness and my freedom
But she won’t let me just be me.
Equilibrium is hopeless
A compromise absurd,
My selfishness is scolded
My prayers remain unheard.

Survival is my purpose
But she has success in sight,
So to her I will succumb
I’m fearful now in this light.
I know there’s love between us
Her eyes tell me it’s true,
She needs me just to be there
And in truth I need her too.

Our animals co-exist
Our lives go hand-in-hand,
Yet I long for independence
On my own feet I must stand.
Despite my mutinous march
From her I cannot hide,
The path of life is bewildering
So I’ll let her be my guide.
