Decay Poem by Samantha Stough

Decay

I can still hear your last breath...it will never leave me
Perhaps I could heal your broken bones with the fruits of my eyelashes

No, unfortunately time beat me to you,
But the world goes on anyway

I lay beside the spot where I used to find you
Only a shadow's stain remains

I am petrified with my own remorse
If only I made friends with the chance you wanted me to take

Instead, I hid in the ditch of my own doubts and despairs
And I couldn't climb out in time to save you

I sorely miss the way the night whispered to us
As we walked in the forest hand and hand

But now that cruel irony has grasped you
I am left to my own decay
