Diseased Poem by Shiloh Thompson

Diseased

Deep in the far reaches of the soul, he waits…
An unobtrusive parasite in an unknowing host,
He patiently sits, hidden, waiting for his chance…

His host continues on, blind to this guest,
Continuing on blissfully ignorant and unaware,
Day to day activities in a normal life.

Until on a certain day, the disease is released,
Eyes meeting, hearts pounding, hands touching,
He springs forth, his presence suddenly revealed…

Within just a few moments, they are infected,
Heads swimming pleasantly with this disease,
Heady emotions whirling in a dizzy array of magic.

It is highly contagious and cannot be stopped,
No medicine for this kind of infection,
Nothing can stop its onslaught into the mind…

Dreams of the day and night, of one person,
Imaginary arms and lips haunt the body,
A pleasantly maddening array of symptoms.

And we human beings are most susceptible,
Ignorant hosts carrying the disease around,
This simple infection we have named ‘love’.
