Don Pedro Poem by Tony Adah

Don Pedro

Don Pedro is nickname
Of a mechanic and a vulcanizer
I know in Ugep, the most populous
Village in west Africa.

Don Pedro's right leg is bad
And his left leg is worst
Maybe he suffered poliomyelitis
In his infancy
And somehow the good hand
Of nature rescued him
From a herbalist home.

He is very proficient
In his trade
Swings between the sick tyres
And his pumping machine
In lightning speed

He beams with smiles and laughter
And makes his customers
Free their minds beside
This gas station where
I am displaying my dentures
At the fun tales
Of Don Pedro.
