Exodus Poem by Phan Thanh gian

Exodus

Night fell suddenly
The savages rule
Birds take flight!

Dark, dank, in rags
Miserable column of trekkers
Beasts, humans in silence

Sorrow: their sole belonging,
Soles worn to bone,
Souls torn, tattered

In the last hours
Unknown horizon awaits.
Is this the end?

What's over there?
More bloodshed and tears?
Long rest, paradise?
