Hollywood Poem by Wendy Moravec

Hollywood

Insides shaking because you dared to bare your feelings
Laying yourself open for others to see into your very soul
Thinking you had risen to the challenge of expressing yourself
Only to be thrown to the wolves for the opinions you expressed.

It took all the strength inside you to put yourself out on that ledge
Naked in front of others, you threw caution to the wind
What a mistake to think this time would be any different
That you could think for yourself without being cut by their cruel words.

What people think of you has always been your weakness
Your heart on the outside of your body, free to be beaten
You hoped that being your friends they’d be gentle with your heart
But they shredded it with the claws of their catty remarks.

They twisted your words until they looked like a word jumble
Making you out to be a villain when all you did was open your soul
They ignored what they didn’t want to see or hear from you
You’re not allowed to feel any way, you don’t get an opinion.
