Honestly Poem by Desy Newbill

Honestly

Do you know what it's like
To be the alien in our world
The black sheep girl

When all I do is try
To make a better life
It's like struggle and survive

Over and over again
The peace descends
Yes I know you love me

But their love stops easy
Unless I conform
Should I tell a lie

Pretend so I might be adored
I didn't have your past
And so I am not like you

I handle it my way
But you still love me
Regardless what we go through

Should their love not be unconditional too
Is loving me a chance that they take
A favor for you

Something they will never truly do
The mistakes around me seem so grand
And my opinion is somehow the devastation

I am the one that takes the fall
For having the opinion of what has really gone wrong
It doesn't make sense to me

You love me still
And yet I am all alone
The only honest one in how she feels

And so I have sinned

For telling the truth
For giving advice to careless youth
My life experiences are unworthy to compare

I don't know a thing and I shouldn't care
My words of wisdom are not wise
Because I simply lived a different life
