Imaginary Friend Poem by Kathryn Garner

Imaginary Friend

I know who I am.
Because I was never really there.
Emotions were defined.
Image childishly outlined.
And you held to me.
Held to something else
No one could see.
They said I was never real.
But I was real too you
And I feel
The forgotten feelings
While you don’t remember me.
Lost innocence,
The only sight to see
I’m still here
Waiting, watching as you’ve outgrown
Your first best friend
In your reality do you feel alone?
As years stretched I faded
And all this time I have waited.
Hoping for you to return
To simpler smiles
Of the child
You once used to be.
Remember me?
Or was I truly only imaginary…..
