One More Try Poem by Curry Bascue

One More Try

I remember everything we once were.
We used to laugh until we cried,
I didn’t know I became a fatal cure.
I remember dreams of you,
But my dreams weren’t so much an illusion.
By each passing day,
I realize I can see straight through you.
The pain inside your heart,
The ache and tears hidden far from the world’s view,
But not my own.
Can I ever make it right?
Just flip over a new leaf to escape this grief?
It’s not that simple anymore.
When did things get so complicated?
So much to the point I can see the pain inside you…
It’s my own mistake,
So how will this be fixed?
I won’t fill you with another empty bucket of promises,
But I will try…
I can feel the same pain as you,
That aching pain inside me when you’re far away,
When the world isn’t right and we can’t make each other better.
Can I build another bridge?
Create and shape a better dream for us?
I won’t cast everything aside this time,
Because could I hurt you again…
I wouldn’t even try.
Just trust me sweet heart,
There’s a better world out there for us.
And I will find it,
Not for my sake,
Nor yours,
But for our sake.
One chapter isn’t that large a jump,
When I now have forever to spend with you.
In our own story.
