Roman Candle Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Roman Candle

She tied me to a paper stake
& Watched her lips dance at the flick of
a lighter
I became a torch fizzling in desire
Sent high up in paramount ecstasy,
A flare to the eyes of an ant.
Streaks of me mixed with her
Shining smudges of red lipstick
A smoky black dress, scattered
sequins.
A bonfire passed from my lips
to hers.
One explosion following the next
Both shaken and stirred
The tip of the wick wilted & flaked.
My night sky a dream everlasting
filled by a spark, more contagious
the further it grows.
I've fizzled & gone
Another eclipse imminent
She breathes fire in yellow, orange
Purple & green.
Soon there'll be nothing left.
The only thing I've known
