Sanctuary… Poem by Betty Jo Hilger

Sanctuary…

He sits enveloped in his own little world
Wrapped in blankets, and sheets, and pillows
Underneath the frame of his tented escape
Hiding from the grasp of the ever creeping bellows

Safe and warm he can lay, and in his mind can play
The scenes of ever after in his head
Listening to the sounds of the voices gathered ‘round
Invisible, impervious to dread

A universe of light…
A galaxy of peace…
He giggles in his darkened comfort space
Snuggling with his fluffy friends, as drifting off to sleep
Undisturbed, he lays dreaming, on his face a smile is lingering

He’s found a piece of heaven
In his own little world
