Take It Or Leave It Poem by Eric Niehoff

Take It Or Leave It

I’m not always delightful
At times I can be cruel
But if you get to know me
You might just think I’m cool

I tend to be direct and honest
A trait you may condemn
I have a wit that cycles fast
At a thousand rpm

As quick to make a joke
As I am at giving praise
If creative is what’s needed
I am likely to amaze

Haven’t mastered small talk
I get right to the point
But if I choose to love you
I rarely disappoint

I may leave myself unguarded
Only to a chosen few
If you violate that trust
Be assured we will be through

Not as rigid in my ways
As I often try to sound
I know with time and effort
We can find some common ground

I’ve loved and lost in my life
And yet hold on to hope
My writing and my family
Have always helped me cope

So here’s me in a nutshell
The surface barely scratched
Struggling to find my way
While partially detached
