Warlord Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Warlord

Rating: 5.0

Stands on palace balcony
Saluting troops marching bye
His sanity long gone asunder.

Feared by his broken people
Governed with terror
With maniacal disregard for life.

Sees himself as the hand of God
Greatest warrior world has known
Reveling in madness, vile beast of war.

Secret police torture and murder
Hide bodies in secret graves
Murdering political enemies.

People snatched from the streets
Bundled into cars never seen again
Prisons running red with blood.

Warlord proudly puffs out his chest
Mind set upon conquest
Extermination for all who oppose him.

A nice eye for detail, history has witnessed many such dictators past and present, news stories and media footage has depicted several such dictators during my lifetime; usually after the event when they fall from popularity the world finally notices; until then governments continue to trade with their countries and ignore persecution and violation of human rights.

I sometimes wonder if our current leaders want to be warlords the way they act, and the hate they spread, the violence they incite and encourage. Creating an enemy for the good people to conquer. A distraction, while all opposition quietly is disposed of. People always think it could never happen here, but if the elements are right it could happen anywhere.
