Dear Jamie,

How are you? I hope you’re doing fine. I don’t know if you remember me, but I think of you all the time. We were driving down the highway, late at night with your arm around me. Didn’t care where we were going, we just put the pedal to the ground. We drove until we found an empty field, we lay down and looked up at the stairs, and you told me that you loved me, I told you the same. I was so young and foolish Jamie, that’s why I did what I did on that day, when you woke up in the morning and found that I was gone.
I tried calling you on the phone, Jamie I never thought I would feel this alone. I’m so sorry baby that I ever treated you that way. There was another man, but he couldn’t make me smile like you can. I guess you’re living in the hospital now, that’s okay, I can live with that. I mean, I’m growing old too, so I’m probably not that far behind.

They say life is short
But I haven’t been around very long
And there isn't a lot I haven’t seen.
I get up in the morning and do the same thing every day.

'Are you alright? '
They ask.
I want to say,
'Why didn't you ask five years ago,
when it might have made a difference? '
But I smile and reply,
'Everything's fine.'
