Tina Stewart Poems

Cowering, curled in a ball on the floor
You peck peck peck then you peck some more
Like a carrion crow who’s discovered dead flesh
You hover then swoop down to wound me afresh
...

I awake to another dark and dismal day.
Eyes black as ink, glaring demonically,
with a frown as threatening as thunder
Mouth taut and twisted.

Unsuspecting eyes meet ********Lungs sharply contract
Hands touch ********Electricity surges
Warm ardent embrace ********Pulse rate increases
Fervent first kiss ********Fireflies take flight

Dear Bully

Cowering, curled in a ball on the floor
You peck peck peck then you peck some more
Like a carrion crow who’s discovered dead flesh
You hover then swoop down to wound me afresh
Slashing and piercing raw, tenderised skin
You stab through my skull reaching scarred mind within
Pecking and picking, severing threads
Turning reason and positive thoughts on their heads
‘Til all fight escapes me, left timid and small
Beaten into submission, to new depths I fall
My worthless existence I question again
Is life really worth all this hurt? All this pain?
Should I woefully cede to my inexorable fate?
Just lie here pathetically broken and wait
Or can I, just maybe, find one tiny bit
of fight deep within me, one spark to be lit
So I take a deep breath, wipe the tears from my eyes
And resolve like a fire singed phoenix to rise

Dear Bully
I’ve fought and I’ve fought so hard not to give in
But now I concede. Dear Bully YOU WIN!
