Invisible Cage (For Robin Williams)

After flashes upon flashes and dates upon dates
It weaves its way in
Then sits and waits….

The scratches are in your stomach, multiplying into your mind
It lingers around your hope
Then takes away your time

The persistence and the nagging, calling you by your name
Removes you from reality
Then returns you to it with shame

This addiction circles your existence as you search for a way out
But is it easier to call the match
Than to fight another bout?

And all the while, as this happens…no one sees the rage
Of a single human struggling
Inside the invisible cage.

Succumbing to the fight….
