Ugochukwu Aneke Poems

Know ye the truth & it shall set ye free
Oneness should flow naturally not imposed
Like a green fetus corded to a white woman
...

When men seem to let go patience
And seek gratification as essence
Knowing of ends rather than means
Look away brother, and die the eagerness
...

They count their holy beads with life claws
Awe that Muham'd came & stood for peace
Fingered-hands say the Roman rosary
O Mother-mary, regarding less the Lords Words
...

Man proposes, God disposes in time
The servants least awaited the end of the fattened cow
Neither did the prodigal's father see a starry sign
The prodigal tho' his share, had swine meals to gnaw
...

Tailors do wish to bribe the barking time -
And jump the cue to make a swift delivery.
Bankers eat their cake to grant a loan -
And have it back from the sold collateral.
...

Ruth excelled in naive innocence
Sowed a seed purely for the purity of adulthood
Until the shoot of her flower got torn
She lost faith & wallowed away adamantly
...

In the cold moonlight
Under the Lamped haven, dearth of moths
Each four household in seclusion sat
And languished events of their importunate thoughts
...

Atimes, I wallow in shallow thoughts
Vivid portraits of the event stays
Sand paths never were ways
Could there be different devoted salts?
...

10.

With pure alluvial, I'll pay a price -
To the cemetery ferry-man -
To lead me to the vast catacomb
Where even the gabbiest are dumb
...

Sympathy alone accompanies my senses
No father to cloth my unclad self
My members left unkempt; result of no family
my tears wept by the rain & not a mother
...

It takes a rare eye to see a smell
Tho' man is endowed with vanishing virtues
It is the remains not the man,
That rot in the masses of the mould
...

My soul smells soft dust
That do burst the yolk of my wet eyes
And decay being its thrust worst
To the host flesh that must allow death.

Slavery After 1960

Yea, the God of creation, in direct of our noble cause
Did not design the Niger River in blindfold
As its yard is not even a stone throw
Nor was he mistaken when men spoke differently
And he willed them to pass their distint record -
Through the scribes of their tribe.

If by my actions or inaction I hurt my mother
Sometime in '67 or '77,
I'd be tensed to apologize, lest I be cursed
Yet, the 'GOC' bordered not a bit of Mrs. Kuti's death
And the young turks slapped by 'Zombie', destroyed 'kalakuta'

Brothers became strangers when Horses attacked the eagle
As ifeajuna chose rather an insane bullet for MaimaLari
The casket chiselled face of Ojukwu, was indebted to Biafra
Ironsi was in error, to true a three false united regions
These turks disrespected the rank in Kola-nut division
Many of the Plots took plotters & left our plots in drought

Though Nzeogwu is not a true Ibo image of Kaduna
As Hausa-Ibo war zoning is of Balewa's death
But never would I forgive the plotters, if I am Hausa-Heir
The northern rulers, save Yar'dua has borne this grudge

My friend, tell not our Ihejirika's era -
With such high zest, the old lie:
'It is sweet & an honour
to kill your own countrymen
than to die for your county'.

The cause of our discorded tribes is the spill of blood
A desert difference dwells in our cultures
Respect for values and cultures: a true oneness
THERE IS NO ONE NIGERIA.
