BATSIRAI CHIZANGA HSW
They are always on the lookout.
They listen carefully to your speech.
They watch your step.

It’s not our divorce that sets my heart on fire.
It’s not your betrayal that slashes it apart.
It’s not your sarcastic tongue that condemns my humanity.
Brutal memories of our past haunt me the most.

That deafening noise in silence
The woes of existence
With her eyes shut from life

Dear ex, when she said she was busy
You should have known she was busy with me
When she said she was tired

My Dreams My Burden

BATSIRAI CHIZANGA HSW
They are always on the lookout.
They listen carefully to your speech.
They watch your step.
They indoctrinate your children.
And work to take away your brain....yes your brain.

MONICA M RUPAZO HTHM
He grew up alone in the streets,
Without mother or father to give him treats.
He fumbled in the dust with bare toes,
From head he wore filthy rages to toes.
He peeped through windows each time to watch people laugh,
Outside the cold caressing him so tough.
I felt his pain when I passed through each time to school,
I feel his pain more as I drive to work through.
I invite the feeling in me of empathy,
To replace the old I grew of sympathy.
It would be my shame to die before I see him smiling per day,
I will put his pain upon my shoulders just to see him smile every day.

BATSIRAI CHIZANGA HSW
They have no concrete identity, they are everyone.
They don’t belong anywhere, because they are everywhere.
They must be related to some big people in government,
Otherwise they wouldn't be half as powerful.

Susan Mafusire PHOS
As l stagger through the streams to my Canaan
Wading against all negative principalities
Floods of dead waters attempt my downfall
Endeavoring to sweep me back to the shore.
I carry my dreams in a woven basket
I place them on the crown of my head
Where the waters can't reach.
Their heavy weight reduces my pace
But l sing as my heart beats...
Singing a song of acceptance that
My dreams are my burdens,
My cross to carry,
My mountain to move.

BATSIRAI CHIZANGA HSW
They don’t want you to read, write or think.
No they can do that for you.
If you dare to dream against them
They have the power to incarcerate you.
For that is the biggest offense in all the land.

HANDSOME MADZONGA BAA
Just around the corner
A man in tattered, greasy clothes
Face pale like withered cucumber
Lips as white as snow
In vain he waits to hear a sound
Of a coin falling into his begging bowl
He will wait all day long
Back home kids and a wife
Wait also
For some food for their bellies
All the same
He vacates the corner a disgruntled man
Hoping tomorrow will be better.

PROGRESS CHIWAWA HEC
Far off in a distance
I dare to dream
Dreams so illegal
Reality has neglected me
Dear dreams,
I would love to give you much more
But I will just leave you my tears
My dreams, my burden

ANITA MUKIZA HPOS
Hope is not meant to fade away
Of my dreams did right before my eyes
I see a broken image of me
In a shattered mirror
Beautiful painting in my head and vision
My dreams,
Taken by the wind as it passed by
Clouded by the harsh thunderstorm
Too much too bear in heart
My burden
My dreams that remain dreams

RUFARO MHEMBERE HBBS
Of course I have a vision
Of course chasing after me dreams is part of the mission
And being called a person among persons is the reason
But I toil every night,
To make sure everything is in place
Before the end of the season.

I have become my own master and my own slave
My own cup of coffee which I only to serve
And ahead, the platform of gold lies
But at the same time, it’s becoming a journey of a thousand miles

My zeal and my will
My thoughts and my desire
My vision, my purpose
Has made me become my own master and my own slave
Surely my dreams have become my burden

SANDISIWE NDLOVU HPS
Alone in the midst of my own deep sleep I lie awake,
Dreaming my mind haunted and tormented
By the nightmares of my dreams
Wondering if I’ll ever get there
And just like doubt they've become a misfit to my success
A danger to myself and my destiny.
I wish to choose
But I shan't, it is my choice,
I chose it this way
Thus I shall have it my way
As it is my own burden
So instead of lying down to keep on dreaming,
I’ll instead get up and live my dream
To work my sweat out until I fulfil it
My own burden
The cross I’ll carry myself across the desert
And hopefully God just like Moses
Will lead me out of the Egypt of my dreams to the Canaan of my success
So I can feed on milk and honey where my fate solemnly belongs
That's my dream,
That’s my burden.

PRAISE KHULANI MOYO BIOCHEM
Like spiral winds of a brewing cyclone,
They revolve around my cranium like a folded python.
They are tangible, I can caress their backbone.
Alas! They are sometimes evasive to my romance

I tracked them like a secret darling,
But I lost them like a ghost dissolving into oblivion
'Where are they? ! ' Cries the dreamer.
'Upon your shoulders, ' answers the Seer

Like an invisible bird, resting on my clavicle,
I feel the weight on my scapula.
The aid of gravity is pulling me to the grave
'Will my dreams go down with me? ' Asks the dreamer
'They will fly away like a widowed woman into another bed' says the Seer

Out of jealousy, I will carry the burden.
I will study the behavior of my dreams
I will know their niche, for I know their obligate host
Indeed they feed on my wisdom like ticks
I will donate the marrow of my wisdom
And live symbiotically with my dreams
