And time seeps slowly past
Like the trickle through the crack in the dam
Hardly noticed until

No morning chats, when sleep creeps tattered away
Chased by the dawn.
And I wake to find you leaning over me,

Oh Baby! its been a long long time
I’ve been missing that love of mine
And it feels like only yesterday
That my darlin’ just slipped away

A solitary windmill piercing the washed out sky
Alone it stands against the flat landscape, a sentinel
And, every now and then, creaks
As a bashful breeze teases the sails and then is gone.

Time, counting the minutes sliding by, gone forever
Gotta keep busy, gotta keep goin’, gotta occupy my mind
Cos time heals, it’s said, they said, just time
Sliding by

Playing in the streets, chalk lines on the warm tar
A bat and ball…an old tin can for wickets.
Climbing over garden walls stealing peaches
Plump, sweet, juice running down our chins
...

Watching the moon set dipping deep orange into the sea
Smelling the night jasmine drift by on the balmy warm breeze
Hearing the nightjar call eerily for its mate
Sleepily, you reach for me
...

They say that you have to give up past loves before a new love is born
They say you must clear away all the hurt and look to the dawn
They say you never will find someone waiting to lie in your arms
Till the old love is gone and the path to your heart
...

Six am the alarm breaks shrilly into the scattered edges of a dream
And the grey dawn peeks through a tattered gap in the curtain
Fumbling for a moment, reaching for the shattered start
Of yet another battered day.

I cleared out the attic today and found a box, sealed with tape
It wasn’t marked and I couldn’t remember what was inside
I’ve carried it around for many years
Moving from one place to another, as my life has changed.
