2.

I have never met anyone
Never walked in the vapour of someone’s dreams of me
Never had to run in the rain to where someone has fallen
Never been sleepless over tearful shared but lost moments

On Distant Shores

On Distant Shores

So who are we, at the end of all this
Are we just dust and the memories others have of us,
Are we the good we have done, the love we have given
Where is it we settle when others live on
Do we look down from some great place,
Amid stars or drifting in between those left behind.
This is what we are, our bodies only vessels
And yet the beauty of life, the sorrow in death
Make us feel more keenly the pain in parting.
But meeting again beyond earthly realms
Is what lies before us, out there, beyond understanding.

And the words we have spoken, the moments we’ve shared
Do they fill up the ether, do they settle like snowflakes
On branches of trees that whisper their secrets in deep winter.
Do we still see the smiles of people we have know
Stretch across the faces of strangers, passing by
How does the heartache subside, how did we feel
When we held hands in a disappearing world, just once.
So captivated by a life, a timeless wave that breaks on us,
A fragment, a thousand thoughts, a thousand heartbeats
That’s what’s left of yesterday, it’s what we shared
When we turned to face the northern winds, together.

But we’re not alone, there’s no great divide
Still a place for us, time standing still, yet falling away from us
And then it’s beautiful, all that we’re not, and never needed to be.
So we go on, we shed tears in moments that remind us
Of how fragile love can be, of how we might have had more.
But we were there together, we were there completely, we knew
That the ties that bind, still bind.
We had that much, we shared that much, we felt that much
Sensing at every turn that our togetherness was merely
Footsteps fading in sands that we both walked in,
On shores whose seas we cast the deepest of sentiment upon.

We will always be all the things that we liked to say,
Always be the smiles we liked to give,
Always be just the best of the minutes we shared.
Always be beautiful beyond words
Always wonderful beyond understanding,
Like the ocean’s deepest mile
Unfathomable but never out of reach.
