Slipping

Silent but still I hear you
Harsh words pierce my ears
Cruel to my state of weakness
Unable to stop the tears

A part of my world has caved in
An earthquake came today
I did not see it coming
I didn't know what to say

The rubble covers my body
This weight is too much to bear
And as the pain slices through my being
I scream out in total despair

My corner was filled with beauty
Bright colours enveloped my space
Happiness overflowed its ledges
As I was pampered in a warm embrace

Something so wonderful and exciting
Each moment a special delight
No words can fit the pictures
Of the scenery such memories incite

And then the upheaval started
It was not of my own device
I would never have started the tremor
Which could destroy my paradise

I do not understand the rumbling
The earth slipping from under my feet
The feeling of entering an abyss
Makes me desperate to find a retreat

There is only one left to help me
The fear is jabbing my heart
My life is fast disappearing
My world is falling apart

As I lie struggling alone in the ruins
Thinking of how I would cope
I pray God will change this conclusion
And send me a burst of hope.
