against the evidence of all our senses,
that underneath our wearinss and grief,
our shattered peace and trembling defenses,
there is a tideless sea that shines with gems
of phosphorus, and pearls from treasure-trove,
expanse devoid of inlets, ripples, hems,
whose molecules are essences of love?
