Alan Brooke Poems
One day, I believe, within my youth I remember waking from a dreamless sleep as if night had forgotten the brutal truth as sea forgets demons in its deepest deep.
The Truth About Love
Love isn't on your Christmas table nor a hug on a warm afternoon, it's not in that moon-lit cradle or in lyrics of a Bob Dylan tune.
I don't know where you've gone, but I'll follow I'll strip the clouds of their tears and fly, then steal the west winds subtle sorrow and pluck the stars from the heavenly sky.
An Ode To Writer's Block
'I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.' Michelangelo Buonarroti
The Child Behind The Door
On this gentle night we wander, lonely through my mind, in fear of the shadows, the creatures we may find. As my mind is no castle built on wonderous delights, a terror stalks the corridors as it stalks my restless nights.
One day, I believe, within my youth
I remember waking from a dreamless sleep
as if night had forgotten the brutal truth
as sea forgets demons in its deepest deep.
I still see that day as if my eyes
hung on for support for future pondering;
the loveliest scent, the shapeliest skies
that I've longed to redress in my wandering.
