Alexander Machkie Coppens

The Pilot

A British pilot flew out of the Palestine's blue sky
avenues and villages below were lightening the night
Out of the cockpit's glass stood the pilot's view
Speechless people below like a submarine crew

He saw the darkness being opened by fires
That crossroad, a reptile tongue with flames
Blighting stars guided him through the skies
Where he saw himself trapped in the barbed wires
