    Prema Nandakumar to me

    Dear Shri Dubey,

Thank you for your gift of The Ferryman, a direct descendent of the great adhyatmika granths of our tradition. I read the introduction with great interest and congratulate you for such lofty sentiments. That was Swami Vivekananda's message given to the world in his Chicago address in 1998: Aakashaat patitang toyang yathaa gacchati sagarang/ Sarva deva samaskarang keshavang pratigacchati//. I can see the strong Tagorean influence in the poetry.
    Wishing you well,
    Yours sincerely,
    Prema Nandakumar

Prof M.K.Naik To Bijay Kant Dubey

    Dear Dr.Dubey,
Thank you very much for the copy of 'Research Method' etc. It should prove helpful to any young researcher. I however wish you had been more discriminating in the choice of poets. In your pages too many versifiers seem to jostle against a few genuine poets! You could organize your argument in a more systematic manner.
    Best Wishes!

Is 'The Ferryman' your only work? You seem to be a Canto writer of some sort. Your poem is an endless song, and as a poet you seem to possess more spiritual cravings and ideal longings than your chronological age justifies. A person with more maturity and wisdom. I am happy. Your leanings towards Siva I appreciate as an older man. In fact I recite at morn, noon and evening Siva Parvathy Dwadasa slokam by Sri Shankaracharya, and also once daily Sivapanchakam. In your concept of yourself as a traveller and life as a travel in searching the Almighty, I agree with you. As we travel, we see the beauty of His creation, its diversity, the whole panorama of good and evil, hardship and happiness, wealth and poverty. Man and his karma on his road to God. Let us sing of life in its richness (not in the rich poor sense) and variety, and let that philosophy of yours comprise the whole panorama that is life.

    Khushwant Singh To Me

I went through your light verses and enjoyed them largely. They saved my sagging spirits and brought a smile on my face. I haven't smiled for a long time.

Prof.M.K.Naik for Murkhamantri (The Joker Minister)

    Dear Dr. Dubey,
Thank you for the poem. Successful satirical verse avoids conventionalities and is pointed, incisive and imaginative. You may do some observation in the light of this.

It is really kind of you to send me your book, How Far Indian is Indian English Poetry, which I look forward to read in the days ahead.
I am sure there will be much for me to learn and enjoy from your book. I am so sorry I am ignorant of critical writing.

I received your courier mail containing the paper Contemporary Indian English Poetry: Latest Entries. It is wonderful, wonderful, really wonderful. You have done a wonderful job which none has accomplished in India. I am amazed to see the material in such an extent covering almost everything about English poetry in India. You know so much about it and so many poets. You are really a storehouse of information. There is none of your talent which I had not been aware of. I do not think anybody has written about so much in India. Perhaps no Indian poet has written so much whom I know him. How do you gather the information? It is amazing to me to see it full. Though ill, it took almost two hours to complete my study of twelve pages. I am still on my bed and am reading it in a lying state. There is nothing left in it about English poetry in India. The paper is unprecedented, unparalleled, never written, never attempted. Perhaps your house is a library which you live in and you write from there. I have no words, no words to praise you. Congratulations. I congratulate you on writing such an original paper. I have no word, no word to say. It will be important not for Bridge-in-Making only, but for all the writers engaged in writing in English in India. I could not even change even a letter or a word as it has been composed and compiled.

The Dark Daughter

The Dark Daughter
The dark daughter, dark not, but beautiful,
Call her not dark,
As she dark not, my dark daughter,
Dark you, dark the world, the tales of Creation,
Dark, dark is Kali,
Not only you.

Dark daughter, you not only dark,
Dark the world and the tales of it,
Dark the Creation
And the tales of it,
The Light coming out from the Womb of Darkness
And shining upon.

Dark daughter, dark you not,
Dark the Creation and the tales of it
Shrouded in myths and mysteries
And miracles flashing upon
To dawn.

Dark dark, dark ...

Sylvia, you the darling daughter of your daddy,
So much attached to and affectionate,
Lovely and emotionally alive,
Nervous and sentimental,
Ted Hughes, you could not feel it.

But the talent seemed to be beaming with
And breaking forth,
Dispelling all that was dark in consciousness
