Biography of Bryan Murphy
Bryan Murphy used an ability to teach as a means to live in interesting places in interesting times: Portugal, Angola, China, Hong Kong and Bulgaria among them. He then settled in Italy and started writing. His poems have appeared in Ariga, Bonfire, Envoi, Erosha, Mélange, Mudlark, Snakeskin, The Hiss Quarterly and elsewhere, including the 2001 Venice Biennale. He is a regular at the 'Poetry on the Lake' Festival on Italy's Lake Orta.

Our lives were cheap in Angola:
no demand on the black market,
nor any stock exchange to trade them on.
We hoarded those lives in unsafe homes
or offered them to the whim of dubious gods:
the bottle, the motor car, the gun, the sea, or
more capricious still, the Italian Embassy lift.
