The Claw Of The Moon

The claw of the moon
(or the moon man's head
with half a face blown off)
that upwards prowler.
Remember old car door locks
of compressed chrome
and sexuality?
Remember the guttural groans
of opening ashtrays?
So the dumb lived too.
Sodium lights as bright
as seraphs, the frank
clapboard of quiet
but noticeable three stories.
November or October
the nip where the pant is torn
a night of diamonds and sneezing
sounds of ochre
and a damp cat's nose.
