Biography of Dennis Orvis

After an exciting half dozen years in the State of Iowa Jaycees, during which he drafted the Iowa Districting Program and was selected as one of the ten top State Vice Presidents in the Nation Mr. Orvis became a professional Chamber of Commerce Executive. He served two chambers in Iowa, Chariton and Mason City, Gary Indiana and Fall River Massachusetts where he retired after twenty one years in that field. In 1984 he became co-owner of Lakeshore Palms Travel Park in Winter Haven Florida, retiring again after twenty-two years. He and his wife, Edith (from Winder Georgia) were married in 1952. They have three children, Vicki, Dennis and LeAnn and have six grandchildren. Mr. Orvis and his wife enjoy golf, Bridge, photography and traveling. They have visited every state, most of Canada and eight other countries. Mr. Orvis has been writing non-fiction pieces, children's stories and poetry extensively since 1983.

Our First Day, Again

The first day of our second fifty years together has started with the bright, cool sunshine sneaking in the window as it squeezes through the Georgia Pines and I lay awake beside you.

I am watching your pretty eyes, slowly open to the new day and I smile as I see that sparkle that I fell in love with over fifty years ago, dancing in the mornings' light.

You look around as the room is getting lighter and a smile appears on your lips when our eyes meet.
