But still and away
off in the distance
the night-call of train on the track
the voices of cats aprowl
mewing in the wet autumn rain
bending closer to winter now
and colder than I recall fall being
dread the turn of season
from green to gray and slate
that even the russet color of leaves turning
cannot stir me with their palette
even the crow dashing headlong into sunset
into a sky painted thick in pumpkin shades
cannot stop me breathless with awe
cannot inspire me to spread so wide my wing
lest I learn to fly..
