the house lights dimmed, a hush descended,
the play was about to begin.

How eager are the children as they look up into the sky,
Reacting to a theatre of sound, colour and light,
A euphoria of expectation, the holding of breath,
The lighting of the bonfire, on top sits the awesome guy,

Winds whistle through the trees,
The breeze whispers and sends the leaves,
To glance off an unsuspecting tree trunk,
And then to execute a spirited bunk,

A holly wreath hung on the door,
Or presents strewn across the floor,

Why are Winter's dull days, so depressing,
And if it's cold as well, very distressing.
Especially, if it's damp,
It gives one's joints the cramp,

When we make mistakes and exclaim, 'I'm only human',
what are we trying to say?
What are we apologising for?
As humans, are we only just above the lowest form of animal,

Perfect is the day,
When the sun, with golden ray,
Lifts your soul, for just a while,
Causing you to raise a smile.

My pen is poised, what shall I write,
The mind is 'dark', it needs some light,
Some 'inspiration' would be enough
To trigger the fingers and do a rough

Look at the different coloured leaves,
Swaying gently with the breeze,
Lovely reds, browns and greens,
All waiting to fall from the trees.
