    Ester Wajcblum (1924-1945), German Jewish victim of the Auschwitz concentration camp. As quoted in Newsweek magazine, p. 54 (January 16, 1995). In a letter to her sister Anna, written in late 1944 when she was being kept in a prison block and tortured. Wajcblum was executed on January 6, 1945, along with three other women—Roza Robota, Ala Gertner, and Regina Safirsztain—for aiding in a plot to blow up the Auschwitz gas chambers and attack the guards. This was the last public execution at Auschwitz; two weeks later, the Germans abandoned the camp.
