There are days in your life when you feel a bit down
When you are one of the sadder souls of the town
When you are not in the mood for to socialize
And you do have the look of sadness in your eyes

I feel lucky in life in many a way
In some of the nice people i meet every day
People who are complete strangers to me
Who help to restore my faith in humanity
...

When you ask me what greatness in a person is in my mind i have no doubt
That most if not all you look on as great of such an honour should be left out
The title of greatness should not come through money and fame
Though many people through these things have become a great name
...

To the bank of the lake the pied shag she fly
Where she spreads her wet wings out to dry
To rid herself of parasites some venture to say
After fishing she does this many times each day.

I will always remember the friends I have known
Though in distance and years apart from them I've grown
They are happy at home I went to live elsewhere
I will always remember my friends over there.

John has good memories of past happy times
In fancy he can hear the Stawell Town chimes
Carrying in the breeze quite a beautiful sound
As he played ball with his young friends in the park playground

Not bad for an old bloke he is seventy nine
To get him drunk it would take far more than a liter of wine
Bilbo he surely is one tough old bloke
If everyone were like him the doctors would be unemployed and broke

Like many i am one who is not without foes
This is part of being human one does have to suppose
Not everyone of me has nice things for to say
You win some and lose some life works in this way

Though perhaps i will never visit there again
Fond memories of St Arnaud in me will remain
A big rural former mining Town that does seem so old in time
The type that does inspire the makers of song, story and rhyme

The citizen band plays the local footballers the main street up and down
Home with their trophy to the old country town
For the team members many a rapturous hooray
This will live in them as a memorable day
