He always is doing his own thing
He laugh and he dance and he sing
He smokes and he jokes and drinks beer
And he is a spreader of cheer.

You are one who is born to lead
A very fine person indeed
And great things we hear of you and read
Though red is the blood we all bleed.

Because he was overfond of the beer
His wife took the children and left him last year
His children raised by another man
Far from here in distant Japan.

As darkness it is gathering above the ancient hill
The loud bray of a donkey cuts through the evening chill
And in the nearby paddock the spur winged plovers cry
All in the calm of the evening as darkness cloaks the sky,

In Kilkenny's black and amber a legendary name
The hurler from Inistioge who hurled his way to fame
The renowned Eddie Keher he rates amongst hurling's best
He never was found wanting when he was put to the test.

How can i judge you mister your life experience so different to mine
You eat in the high class restaurants and drink expensive wine
And you too have a story of your life for to tell
You are seen as successful for yourself you've done well,
...

We think of the past and we live for today
And the clock on our lives it is ticking away
And of making a success of life we despair
But far worse off than us in the big World out there.

It will not be recorded in human history
What i think of you or what you think of me
You and i have a different sense of reality
A different World we look at and see.
...

There is no holding back the hands of time
And for everyone of us a final rhyme
The will to live it keeps us keeping on
Though yesterday forever past and gone.

I have expended energy some might say wasted time
In putting words together and penning slipshod rhyme
And since i started scribbling I've penned a lot of stuff
And i like penning verses though my rhymes not good enough
