Biography of Katherine Felix
Katherine (Also known as Kathy and Kat) grew up in the United States, married a St Lucian, and when her children began attending school in the States, decided that moving to the Caribbean would give them the best chance at having a positive identity and sense of self.
She ended up raising them as a single mother, and ended up mading the Caribbean Home, not only for her children, but for herself.
With both children now adults, she spends most of her free time painting, writing, working with other artists and supporting local talent.
A self-taught artist, Katherine has always spent time expressing herself creatively.
A writer and visual artist, her work reflects her surroundings, relationships and the many journeys she has made in life; artistically, emotionaly, spiritually and physically.
Now residing in Barbados, Katherine writes, paints and has found a creative family in the spoken word community with the members of Iron Sharpen Iron, and Mic Check. Having written poetry for as long as she can remember, she devoted time to improving her natural talents, learning from the talented and positive people surrounding her.
Katherine is an award winning Poet and Visual Artist, having won one Silver and three Bronzes for Poetry and Prose in Literary Arts, and two Bronzes for Visual Arts in Barbados’ National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA)
A Project Manager by day, Katherine is an active, founding member of the League of Extraordinary Poets, (LXP) a Non-Profit organization devoted towards the holistic development of Cultural and Artistic workers here in Barbados and throughout the wider Caribbean.
The Poet Came
The Poet came
shattering barely fortified defenses
emotional barriers crashing
pretty garbage spilled reluctantly
tribute at his feet.
Comfort zones demolished
eyes and I's opened,
