The Last Song Of A Coward
I froze, I shuddered, I dreaded the worst
Finding myself, in the muddle, like a ghost.
I wished that I had never been there
To see the body nailed to the cross on the altar.
He still maintained a smiling face
Only to be mocked by an eerie grimace.
Waiting under the altar were the hyenas
To savor the blood that it sputters.
I lay awake, cramped, with my face covered
Under my palms as the beasts hovered.
For me they would bring with them the same fate
And walk away, unperturbed, with the same gait,
Had I raised my head o'er the bodies mutilated
