Darkness In The Light

I rise up early, its dark outside
Through the curtain-less window gleam the big city lights
Into the distance they illume
As I stare until my eyes hurt
I stare as I do every waking hour, staring, afraid to miss my hour

But the bright lights in my city only shine to blur the despondency that abounds
The desperation and hunger
The idle youth subsisting on drugs and gambling
